The Candidates is an eight player double round-robin tournament being held in Yekaterinburg, Russia under the auspices of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). The first half of the tournament was played in Yekaterinburg, Russia, from 17 March to 25 March 2020. It was suspended at the halfway point due to the COVID-19 pandemic when the Russian government announced the closure of air traffic with other countries, amid a rapidly escalating coronavirus pandemic.
